The Challenge:

I belong to a CD club that creates compilations of our personal music libraries in order to share new music with each other. As it is an international club, I have come across some independant artists that I would never have been introduced to otherwise.

Each individual is responsible for one month. My month happened to be April - so my inspiration was the government, since it was tax time.

While it is not expected that we will create a CD insert - I felt that it would be a good challenge to give myself.

The Solution

Again, I took my inspiration from mythology. The Furies were female personifications of vengeance. They were usually said to have been born from the blood of Uranus that fell upon Gaia when Cronus castrated him. Their number is usually left indeterminate, though Virgil recognized three: Alecto ("unceasing"), Megaera ("grudging"), and Tisiphone ("avenging murder"). The heads of the Erinyes were wreathed with serpents, their eyes dripped with blood, and their whole appearance was terrific and appalling.

Art sometimes is a statement on the current events surrounding the artist - and this piece definitely was that for me. For me, the Furies are a anthropomophism of the feelings of guilt that pursue wrong-doers. And, in my opinion, President Bush has much to feel guilty about.

This was both fun and fulfilling to create. I included a listing of the songs included in the CD, along with the artist who recorded them, what album they were from, and the date the album was published. The internal portion of the booklet included the lyrics from each song.
